About
Hey there, I'm Maria Helmrich.
I am a Dynamic Mindfulness yoga teacher, certified with the International Yoga Alliance (RYT 200).
I found yoga in
2011, as a tool for overcoming anxiety and self-limiting thought. My path finally led me to take a yoga teacher training in 2019 to dive deeper into my own practice and to be able to share this practice with others.
What came
before 2019? Before teaching yoga in Berlin, my life looked quite a bit different. I grew up and spent most of my life in Nairobi, Kenya. After completing my Masters’ in Business Information Management in the Netherlands in 2015, I moved
back to Nairobi, where I worked as a Data Scientist for almost four years. At first elated to be back where I wanted to be and had always been, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t quite belong there anymore. I struggled for quite some
time with feeling at home – both physically and in my work.
So, in 2017 I walked the Camino de Santiago. Let me tell you, 930 kilometers and 42 days of walking give you plenty of time to think! I learned a great deal about self-reliance
as I walked from East to West of northern Spain, and if anything was going to change, it was in my power to do so. No one else would do the work for me. And in a way, I finally did find my “home”, in myself, in my body.
And so here
I am now. My goal is to inspire you to feel at home in your body and to have the courage to be yourself; to move in a way that feels good to you, with curiosity and compassion, meeting yourself where you are.
When I’m not teaching
yoga, I’m probably following one of my many creative passions, from drawing and painting to silversmithing, or spending time outdoors connecting with nature.
I look forward to connecting with you!
